In the Paper 03:20
I'm gonna get you in the paper baby I'm gonna get you in the news I'm gonna get you in the paper baby I'm gonna get you in the news I'm gonna follow you home now baby I'm gonna follow you home I'm gonna follow you home now baby You better not walk alone Everyone's gonna say they knew you baby It's not gonna be true Everybody wants a little fame now baby It's not gonna be true Light's all gonna be out now baby No lights on at home Light's all gonna be out now baby Someone went and left you all alone Better find another way out my sweet thing Better find another way out You can climb into my suitcase baby Better find another way out

She’s from the island just around the neck A flower in her hand like a bullet from the past She shoots the sky down just to watch the sunshine Bleed into the streets as she takes her guns to town She sings at low tide to the lonely beach A salty melody from the deep dank ocean A mere farmer’s daughter with a heart inside Beating out the march for the turning of the tide Madonna of the clam flats digging in the mud Hopelessly lonesome for you in flesh and blood Now when the sun sets she walks the shore All the lonely ducks are happier with her She cuts through the pine trees where no man goes Ever so gently floating on her tip toes A ballerina bog dance of the finest form As true as any blue bird dying to be born Out of the forest with spade in hand Searching for the queen pearl hiding in the black sand Madonna of the clam flats digging in the mud Hopelessly lonesome for you in flesh and blood

She never did want you, now she will haunt you Green grass at her graveside, bathing in moonlight No way out except the way that you came, a path through the pain like a highway She has broken the rule book and offered no outlook Read a new author cause she can’t be bothered Oh, the fire in your mind leaves smoke in your eyes, longing for the ice And if you ever find the stream Or the river full of dreams Remember what’s behind you Cause loneliness can find you, must I go remind you? She is nothing to laugh at, in fact she’s a class act Please water her grasses for growing the past is Oh, the clouds are turning blue, the darkness you knew is floating like ashes And if you ever find the stream Or the river full of dreams Remember what’s behind you Cause loneliness can find you, must I go remind you?

Little bird, sit quiet, don’t chirp Your song will be prey for the hurt Broken so long, provide us with calm, for the storm Little bird, stay out of my sight And I better not see you tonight No longer mine and no longer yours, no longer a waste of words Fly away, spread your tiny wings and go Fly away, pack up everything you know Die away, your memory has no home Die away, I’ll flush you from my bones Little bird, the trees are all bare And you can’t bring them back with a prayer Haul off and cry, but stay in the sky with the storm Little bird, I sang you my song Now take it back home to your spawn Sing them the truth, there’s no one like you, in the calm you don’t belong Fly away, spread your tiny wings and go Fly away, pack up everything you know Die away, your memory has no home Die away, I’ll flush you from my bones

When the gunshots rang nobody was ready to die When the horse men came the clouds were just faking the sky Oh the perfect crime, commitment’s one hell of a line Oh the goal is blind, for no one will serve you their time And it couldn’t be better I said And it couldn’t be better off dead And it couldn’t mean lesser instead no more or no less A victim at best just stuck in the pen The pursuit is long, a dessert of tangled up thorns The belief is strong that someday you will fill those arms Thunder, rain and scars, the buffalo have all been pawned Under braided stars, aware of the darkness beyond And it couldn’t be better I said And it couldn’t be better off dead And it couldn’t mean lesser instead no more or no less A victim at best just stuck in the pen

Little Rose 05:03
Frozen in the snow, ice dangling from her nose Left the camp to gather wood for her Little Rose A smile on her face, taken to another place Now the scent of death is trapped there in her clothes They knew that something’s wrong, she shouldn’t have been long They hit the woods and still held out some hope But night cannot be stopped as the temperature dropped Now what will come of motherless Rose? I don’t know if she ever said I love you I don’t know, I don’t know Little Rose I don’t know if she ever even told you I don’t know, I don’t know poor Little Rose And when the sun crested the ridge They found the one, the mother of the kid Frozen in the snow, ice dangling from her toes Left this world to wait upstairs for Little Rose Now Little Rose is grown, a family of her own With the dead of winter settled in her bones But the fire needs a flame and it’s calling out her name Out the door she leaves the children home alone Then slipped behind the fence and couldn’t feel her hands Sleeping under stars in her mother’s arms I don’t know if she ever said I love you I don’t know, I don’t know Little Rose I don’t know if she ever even told you I don’t know, I don’t know poor Little Rose

Dirty Wolf 03:07
I kept your hair in a locket til a wolf came and robbed it And headed out for old Santa Fe I chased him down in a Buick with a pistol and three bullets Determined to send him to his grave I caught his scent in Albuquerque where I stopped to buy some jerky The clerk said he saw him there at noon I glanced down at my watch and the hands read 2 o’clock Two hours past for him to meet his doom Dirty wolf stole your hair, I usually wouldn’t care But the thing that gets my goat is your ghost to go on bare Dirty wolf best beware, his last breath drawing near And the thing that floats my boat is the thought of his despair I got back on the highway where the shadows run in sideways Thinking of the space between my gun and the dog I cursed the nasty canine as I sped on down the mainline When suddenly I came upon a fog Then I had a stroke of luck when I happened on a truck Broke-down on the side of the road I stopped to lend a hand but when the wolf saw me he ran Off into the sages down below Dirty wolf stole your hair, I usually wouldn’t care But the thing that gets my goat is your ghost to go on bare Dirty wolf best beware, his last breath drawing near And the thing that floats my boat is the thought of his despair I ran down to a creek, spotting him, I shot his cheek He howled like a mangy little goon I pinned him with my boot as he pleaded not to shoot I pulled one off beneath the yellow moon He lay there in the dust lifeless from the bust I swiped your hair and walked back to the car Now your hair is silky safe and your ghost will still look great As your locks shine on like braided stars Dirty wolf now is dead, a bullet in his head But the thing I like the most is your hair of crimson red Dirty wolves best beware your brother isn’t here I think I’ve made my point and I’ve made it loud and clear

Haunt my dreams, haunt my heart Haunt the scenes, haunt the dark Haunt the night, haunt the day Haunt the loneliness away Haunt my thoughts, haunt my hands Haunt my walks, haunt my plans Haunt the right, haunt the wrong Haunt the loneliness along Oh, sparrow broken wing Poor fellow rambling Oh, sparrow broken down Heart comes pouring out Tears come rolling down Haunt my lips, haunt my ears Haunt my steps, haunt my fears Haunt my sight, haunt my pain Haunt the loneliness away Haunt my scent, haunt my smell Til the end haunt my skull Haunt my bones, haunt my dreams For you mean everything to me Oh, sparrow broken wing Poor fellow rambling Oh, sparrow broken down Heart comes pouring out Tears come rolling down Haunt my dreams, haunt my heart Haunt the scenes, haunt the dark Haunt the night, haunt the day Haunt the loneliness away Oh, sparrow broken wing Poor fellow rambling Oh, sparrow broken down Heart comes pouring out Tears come rolling down

Paper Roses 04:37
Oh, paper houses Oh, paper rose Oh, paper roses And oh, paper clothes When I was an animal they put me in a cage When I was only an animal they filled my heart with… Hold me in fables, switch off the light Take all my winter clothes and steal into the night When I was an animal they put me in a cage When I was only an animal of sweet and sorry rage Oh, the sea is very still Oh, it waits and waits Oh, these paper things my love will turn your heart to waste Oh, paper houses Oh, paper roads Oh, paper roses And oh, paper clothes When I was an animal they took away my eyes They fed me with tooth and nails, they begged me not to cry

It’s a long way to the planet of you And I don’t know how to get there all alone I could build a boat, I could build a race car I could build a rocket or a moat Oh alien of my heart I love you and you break me apart You have no home of your own I’ll find you don’t you leave me alone In a long wild road down a canyon with no river I was searching in the heat for your hand This turning back on time what a steep and hopeless climb I see you on the moon but darling I will find you soon It’s a long way to the planet of you And I don’t know how to get there all alone I could build a boat, I could build a race car I could build a rocket or a moat Come down, down from that hill The water is stirring not still Come hold, hold my breath I’m a stranger and I love you to death Oh alien of my heart I love you and you break me apart You have no home of your own I’ll find you don’t you leave me alone Oh, no I’ll find you don’t you leave me alone

The Banquet 02:24
Across the lonely sands, below the moon Wagon wheels advance, a party on the move Drinking whiskey when the water’s gone Feeling dizzy then you’re having fun It’s a party, you’re the banquet It’s a pity you wont make it Along the hasty route a mile took a day Wagons sink in salt, death is under way Further on they march, the snow was clean Water turned to scotch and ice turned the stream It’s a party, you’re the banquet It’s a pity you wont make it Feet so swollen, frost bitten, split open Desolation plucking out a tune Eyes are witness, no progress, almost finished Desperation, friends are food Hunkered in the cold, shaken to the core Feasting on the old lifeless in the storm Take a shot and try to drink away the times From now on they’ll cry hungover for our lives It’s a party, you’re the banquet It’s a pity you wont make it

Rob the Bank 04:10
You have paper eyes and a diamond liver Rob the bank and the money is yours The stagecoach is burning The gasoline is burning There is no more money To buy me pretty things In ten years or more you'll remember the code You'll crack all the cases your hands fill with gold Somebody somewhere is waiting for you Somebody somewhere believes that... You've got paper eyes and a diamond liver Rob the bank and the money is yours You swallow the river, you stand up and bray No man in this country will find you today Capture the hearts of the guards while they sleep Hold their hands and betray their keep The stagecoach is burning The gasoline is burning There is no more money To buy me pretty things Rob the bank, rob the bank and the money is yours

As the Sparrow Goes (free) 03:08
Where you are going there'll be no chance for a letter to get through But millions of sparrows fly everyday bringing my message to you Go little sparrow go Go little sparrow go As the sparrow goes so I go winging my love to you As the sparrow flies my heart flies bringing my love to you Lovers where you go I'll be beside you I'll send a sparrow to guide you and keep you from harm Lover where you go and you see a sparrow That is your arrow to guide you to my heart Go little sparrow go Go little sparrow go Go little sparrow go Go little sparrow go
